Why Kashmir
The Valley is built for solar.
High altitude · clear skies · 287 sunny days. And a billing structure where solar saves disproportionately more.
01
4–5.5 peak sun hours daily
Kashmir's high altitude and clear mountain air delivers exceptional solar irradiance. We design systems at a conservative 4 kWh/kW/day to ensure year-round performance — not just in summer.
4.0h

02
JKPDCL load-shedding protection
Frequent power cuts across J&K cost households thousands annually. A hybrid solar + battery system keeps your home running 24/7 — completely independent of JKPDCL schedules.

 daily cuts in winter
03
₹94,500 government subsidy
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana covers up to ₹94,500 for J&K residents. We handle 100% of the paperwork, portal registration, and DISCOM approvals — completely free of charge.

Our mission
Kashmir runs on
sun, not shedding.

J&K faces some of India's longest power cuts — up to 12 hours a day in winter. Thousands of households and businesses lose productivity, food, and comfort every single day.

Aftaab Green Kashmir was built to change that. We combine Kashmir-specific engineering, honest pricing, and end-to-end government subsidy support — so solar works for every home in the Valley, not just the privileged few.

FAQ
Questions we hear every day.
How do I find the right solar plant size for my home?
The simplest way is to check your last JKPDCL bill for total units consumed (kWh). Divide that by 120 (Kashmir's monthly generation per kW at 4h peak sun) to get the kW system you need. For example, 400 kWh/month ÷ 120 = 3.3 kW, which we round up to a standard 4 kW system. Our calculator on the site does this automatically.
Why does solar save so much more in Kashmir than other states?
J&K's higher slab rate is ₹5.50/unit (above 200 units). Most Indian states charge ₹4–5 at higher slabs. So every unit solar generates in Kashmir saves more in rupees than the same unit generated in Bangalore or Delhi. Heavy users are in the higher slab for most of their consumption — solar wipes out that expensive portion entirely.
Does solar work in Kashmir winters?
Yes. Solar panels are actually more efficient in cold temperatures. Kashmir winters have shorter days (generating less), but high-altitude clear air delivers strong irradiance even in January. We size systems at 4 kWh/kW/day (conservative annual average) — not the summer peak of 5.5h — so performance in winter is already accounted for in your system design.
How do I get the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
We handle everything. After installation we register your system on the PM Surya Ghar portal, submit your DISCOM net metering application, and follow up until the subsidy is credited directly to your bank. You just provide Aadhaar, bank details, and your JKPDCL bill. Most J&K approvals take 30–45 days.
What EMI options are available?
We've tied up with J&K Bank (7.5% p.a.), SBI (8.5%), and several NBFCs. Tenures from 12 to 84 months. For many customers, the monthly EMI is offset by the electricity savings generated — meaning the system effectively pays for itself while you use it.

Enter your monthly electricity usage (units/kWh) or select your appliances. We calculate your recommended plant size using Kashmir's 4 kWh/kW/day irradiance. All assumptions are adjustable.
These figures are referential only and may not be accurate. Actual system size, savings, and costs depend on your specific roof, shading, panel brand, orientation, and site conditions. A precise recommendation can only be made after a free on-site survey by our team — book yours today.

We started Aftaab Green Kashmir because Kashmir deserved a solar company that truly understood the Valley — the winters, snowfall, JKPDCL load-shedding, and the unique climate that makes sizing so different here than anywhere else in India.

We use actual consumption data and Kashmir-specific irradiance to calculate the precise plant size you need — not generic estimates. The result: a correctly-sized system that covers your real usage, not an oversized or undersized one.

Why we're different
Usage-accurate sizing. We use your real monthly kWh consumption to recommend the correct plant size — never over or undersized.
Kashmir-specific design. Our sizing uses 4 kWh/kW/day — the conservative annual average for J&K — not inflated summer peak figures.
Subsidy handled end-to-end. Full PM Surya Ghar paperwork support. 100% DISCOM approval rate.
25-year commitment. Lifetime technical support. We're not going anywhere.
Transparent pricing. No hidden costs. What we quote is what you pay.

◎ Real-World Outcomes
📤
Net Exporter · Panels produce more than you use
Larger systems or low-consumption homes. Energy charge approaches zero. Surplus carries forward.
Surplus credit → carries to next month ✓
⚖️
Near Break-Even · Solar covers most needs
Import and export roughly balance. You pay very little — mostly fixed charges only.
Minimal bill — mostly fixed charges ✓
📥
Net Importer · Common in Kashmir winters
Overcast skies and shorter days reduce generation. Pay for net shortfall, but summer credits offset it.
Reduced bill — summer credits offset winter ✓
✓ Myths vs Facts
MYTH"Solar panels will keep my home running during a power cut."
FACTOn-grid inverters shut down when grid fails — mandatory anti-islanding safety. No grid = inverter stops. Not a flaw; a safety requirement protecting line workers.
MYTH"My electricity bill will go to zero."
FACTEnergy charges can drop dramatically — near zero if generation matches usage. But fixed charges (meter rent, demand charge) always remain. They're the cost of your 24×7 grid backup.
MYTH"Solar doesn't work in Kashmir's cold winters."
FACTPanels generate from light, not heat. Cold clear days can be productive. Only two things reduce winter output: less daylight (9–10 hrs vs 14–15 in summer) and cloud cover. Grid covers any shortfall.
MYTH"I need batteries for on-grid solar."
FACTNo batteries needed. The JKPDCL grid is your storage — surplus exported during day, "withdrawn" at night via net metering. Batteries only needed for off-grid/hybrid and significantly increase cost.
? Frequently Asked Questions
What size system do I need for my home?
1 kWp generates roughly 4–5 units/day in Kashmir. If your home uses 150 units/month (~5/day), a 1–1.5 kWp covers most daytime needs. Most domestic consumers install 1–3 kWp. Use our Solar Calculator for a precise figure.
Does the system need maintenance?
Very little. Keep panels clean — rinse with water every few weeks. Inverter is fully electronic, no routine servicing. Most inverters: 5-year warranty. Panels: 25-year performance warranty.
What happens when snow covers the panels?
Snow reduces output. Panels are tilted so snow slides off as it melts. On heavy snow days, output is low — JKPDCL grid covers it instantly. Gently clearing panels after heavy snowfall restores output quickly. Summer generation more than compensates via net metering credits.
Does my existing home wiring need to change?
No. Internal wiring stays as-is. Solar connects at your meter board. JKPDCL replaces your existing meter with a bi-directional meter. Everything integrates without any internal rewiring.
What if my inverter stops working?
Your home continues receiving grid power exactly as before — no outage. Bill will be higher (no solar offset) until repaired. This is the key advantage of on-grid: grid is always your unconditional backup.
